Past, Present and Future

Today my GH and I have been married for 10 yrs.  It has been a wonderful 10 yrs. My life is so very different than it was before I met him. I want to say THANK YOU FOR THE BEST 10 YEARS! LOVE YOU LOTS!!

I think anniversaries are beautiful!! Don’t you?

Catch-up time – again!

I think I am playing farmtown too much, riding too much and just staying too busy for this every day or week blog LOL!!

I rode in the Fourth of July parade here in my little town. My first parade – not the horse’s! We won second best theme – “Farm Life”. Biggin was his awesome self – except for the Llamas. I guess all of the horses thought the lanolin smelled bad because NONE of the horses could stand the beautiful llamas.

(side note about this pic – does everyone still feel and look fat to themselves after they lose a lot of weight?! LOL)

The 20X40 shed is gutted, inventoried, dispersed to the burn pile, dump pile or salvaged and the new ones are up. I painted the shed – referred to as the barn – pink! The walls are med pink and the floor is cranberry.

There is hay in it and four saddle trees – pic shows just 2. I am working on a shelf that will run the width of the barn across the back for seasonal items like the water heater and duck heat lamp.

Thinking of the ducks…. I am entering 3 of the young ones in the county fair this year. And the orchid that grows 8 – 10 shoots full of blossoms. We found out that 2 of the new ducks are male… was wondering why I was not finding eggs! Hopefully when the sheds are completed, I will be able to finish the duck house before winter. The sheds are getting the roofs finished, a storage area made between them and steps to my barn.

I have been riding Biggin about every other day now. Up and down the mountains and around the trees….. the other day we went about 8 miles. I just keep pushing farther and farther :-)

Hopefully I will be back soon…. happy trails, everyone!

1,000 acres and Watching

Yesterday morning a fire started about 3 miles NW of my home. The wind was at a “Red Flag” alert blowing in a NE direction. We were put on “Preliminary Evacuation Notice”. Apprx 60 homes north of me were evacuated last night. The wind died off last night and the fire seems more in control this morning. So far, no cause has been determined.

These 2 pics are taken from the Arizona Daily Sun newspaper this morning

I took this one this morning from our driveway

Only residents and deliveries are being allowed in from the main road. Keep your fingers crossed that the wind stays blowing north and that the fire crews can get it contained as soon as possible.

We got our delivery from Home Depot this morning and have a crew working to finish the shed tear down, lay railroad ties to get a level base and then erect the new sheds. I will post before and after in a few days!!

Evidence

Of a GREAT little ride!

After all of the clean up and emptying the large outside freezer, defrosting it, cleaning it, moving it from the collapsed shed to the back porch and filling it back with the contents, I managed to find time to ride. I rode little Shadow in the round pen with an English saddle. I have had the saddle for a couple of yrs now but have preferred the western ones. I may change my mind! That little saddle was VERY comfortable! I have been riding bareback this week in the round pen to strengthen my leg muscles and to improve my balance. Haven’t fallen off, yet! LOL

So, today was the day…. the day I rode Ruskie, my Arabian.

And here is the Evidence!

He is such a dream to ride! SO SMOOTH!! But, then after riding Shadow, who has a pointy back and the CHOPPIEST of gaits, Ruskie felt like a cloud! I have been riding Biggin, the big quarter horse to regain my confidence and it really showed today on Ruskie!! I rode Biggin on a six mile trail ride a couple of weeks ago and on shorter, closer to home, rides since. MAJOR milestone for me today!!

YAY ME!!

Conan’s Inspirational Farewell

This farewell of Conan O’Brien’s was the MOST inspirational speech I have ever heard. I never watched much of his show and I am sad now that I did not get to know this man better….. but he will be back sometime, somewhere and I will not miss the opportunity again. Here is a small quote of his speech that I found so inspiring! Thanks, Conan, I will not forget these words!

“To all the people watching, I can never thank you enough for your kindness to me and I’ll think about it for the rest of my life. All I ask of you is one thing: Please don’t be cynical. I hate cynicism — it’s my least favorite quality and it doesn’t lead anywhere.”

“Nobody in life gets exactly what they thought they were going to get. But if you work really hard and you’re kind, amazing things will happen.”

Conan O’Brien’s farewell speech from The Tonight Show

Storms

We are on the third storm of this week. It got past my knees last night in the areas that have been repeatedly shovelled for the last week.

These shovelled trails were taken just now after Leavi and worked to get out to the horses and ducks. I think we got well over 12 inches last night and it is STILL coming down!

Those dark spots in the snow that look like little sticks poking out is my fence-line. Notice how deep it is on the garbage can!

Then I found this video at Facebook of the mighty Pacific Ocean.
