Free Bar of Handmade Soap!

October 30th, 2008

Hey, guys - go on over to A Writer and A Rider, make a comment to enter her free bar of soap contest. She makes her own soap-very gentle and no allergens.  It is a wonderful bar of Midnight Chocolate Amber, which was her top seller at the County Fair this year.  She says “It’s sultry, sexy and somehow perfect for the new, dark nights of fall (not to be mistaken for dark nights of the soul). Plus, just like an authentic autumn day, these bars start out light colored and cheery (see background soap) and then darken to a broody, rich brown as they age, showing off the gold veins running though:”

I agree with her totally that it is an awesome looking AND smelling bar of soap! So, I hope you have time to go and enter to get one for yourself!

Spreading The Word Until Nov 1

I just voted in Care2.com’s “America’s Favorite Animal Shelter” contest to help my favorite local group, Beauty’s Haven Farm & Equine Rescue, Inc, win a grand prize of $10,000. Think of the homeless pets we could save with $10,000! But I need your help to get enough votes to help Beauty’s Haven Farm & Equine Rescue, Inc win. Please vote here:

 http://www.care2.com/animalsheltercontest/75774/?refer=23774.10.1224389098.7516

When you ask your friends to vote, you will not only increase Beauty’s Haven Farm & Equine Rescue, Inc’s chances of winning, but you could be a winner, too. The 20 people who recruit the most people to vote during the contest will win a $50 gift certificate for pet products, sponsored by Adopt-a-Pet.com!

My family donates regularly each month to Beauty’s Haven.  The staff that cares for the horses is so passionate and caring.  They save many horses.  They give dignity to those that they are unable to save.  And, mostly, they love each animal as though it was there own.  So, click on the link above or scroll down to find a badge in the sidebar to click.  It only takes a few minutes to vote and they could get so much for your time.

Thank you :-)

You gotta laugh with them!

Wild Women of Whippoorwill

A Letter From My Horses

October 9th, 2008

A very dear friend passed forwarded this on to me today……

update: I did not mean to say that my friend had passed on - sorry

When you are tense, let me teach you to relax.
When you are short tempered, let me teach you to be patient.
When you are short sighted, let me teach you to see.
When you are quick to react, let me teach you to be thoughtful.
When you are angry, let me teach you to be serene.
When you feel superior, let me teach you to be respectful.
When you are self absorbed, let me teach you to think of greater things.
When you are arrogant, let me teach you humility.
When you are lonely, let me be your companion.
When you are tired, let me carry the load.
When you need to learn, let me teach you. After all, I am your horse.

And now, the REAL story…..

When you are tense, let me teach you that there are lions in them thar woods, and we need to leave NOW!
When you are short tempered, let me teach you to slog around the pasture for an hour before you can catch me.
When you are short sighted, let me teach you to figure out where, exactly, in the 40 acres I am hiding.
When you are quick to react, let me teach you that herbivores kick much faster (harder) than omnivores.
When you are angry, let me teach you how well I can stand on my hind feet because I don’t feel like cantering on my right lead today.
When you are worried, let me entertain you with my mystery lameness.
When you feel superior, let me teach you that, mostly, you are the maid service.
When you are self absorbed, let me teach you to PAY ATTENTION. Remember? I told you about those lions in them thar woods?
When you are arrogant, let me teach you what 1200 lbs. Of “YAHOO LETS GO!” can do when suitably inspired.
When you are lonely, let me be your companion. Let’s do lunch. Also, breakfast and dinner.
When you are tired, don’t forget the 600lbs. Of grain that needs to be unloaded.
When you are feeling financially secure, let me teach you the meaning of “Veterinary Services”.
When you need to learn, hang around, bud. I’ll learn ya.

Thanks, Miss N :-)

Back In The Saddle, Again

October 5th, 2008

I spent most of the morning working on “my” shed project.  I call it mine because great husband is on the road and I am the carpenter/Jane-of-all-trades when he is gone.  The boys helped me finish the outside panels - there are 5, 8 foot long plywood panels - they are supposed to keep the rain and wind out of the shed (there used to be screened “windows”).  Then I went inside to work on one of the “cubbies”… I am trying to put in some shelves for all of my plastic boxed things, holiday decorations and fix up the tack area.  I will post a pic of the “cubby” when I get one of them done.

Then, this afternoon, I went out to the horses - cleaned feet, combed manes and brushed them - all 3 that are ours.  Then I saddled Biggin for my first ride on him.  While I was saddling him, my BFF Nicole, came to drop off feed for her horse, Zzari.  We both rode Biggin in the round pen and we both enjoyed our ride.  He is very smart and figures out what we ask of him within a few minutes.  He is actually for great husband to ride.  When he has his first ride, I will post pics.

This is me.

My Work Area

October 4th, 2008

Talina, over at HarvestofDailyLife  was nosy curious about her reader’s work/computer areas.  So, here is a pic of my work area - no retouching or cleaning was allowed.   I have some of my fairies, pics of my grandma who is 92 now, my fish tank, my ebay stuff for sale and my computer software and books near by.

And, since I had the camera on, I wanted to share one of my orchid plants…. it has FIVE stems of flowers this time!  I put the pot in the floor so that the flowers would show better than in the window where I keep it.  Archie could not resist the fun. :-)  Notice the upper left hand corner.. those are some buds that I am waiting for to open.
